Last Train Out
16" x 20", Acrylic on Canvas, 2005
Al Rutke Collection

Steam and light flurries fill the air on a cold late December afternoon at Palmerston, ON, as the Engineer and
Conductor of CNR train 174, a daily (ex.sun) passenger train to Hamilton, ON, pause in their duties to wish the
station master a Merry Christmas. The Fireman on the #5606 sends his wishes from the warmth of the cab. Last
minute packages are being loaded for destinations between here and Hamilton and beyond.
